Marlena Zuber is a freelance illustrator and artist. She graduated from the illustration program at the Ontario College of Art and Design in 1997 and her illustrations have appeared in the Washington Post, Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, HOW Magazine, BUST Magazine and Print Magazine.
Marlena has shown her personal work in numerous group shows in venues that include Gallery 1313, Fanny Larouche Artspace, Toronto Free Gallery, A.W.O.L. Gallery, Richmond 401 for Nuit Blanche 2006, Society of Illustrators Gallery in New York, Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition and the Alley Jaunt Art Show.
Maps have become a new niche for Marlena. She has drawn a number of psychogeographic neighbourhood maps for [murmur], Toronto's internationally acclaimed mobile phone location-based storytelling project. Other maps have been created for non-profit organizations such as LEAF, Environmental Defense, Evergreen and a large "uTOpia" map was created for Coach House Books uTOpia: Towards a New Toronto, the first volume in the uTOpia series.
Marlena is also a member of Tomboyfriend a new emerging 1950’s rock and roll art band of the future. She works part-time as a program co-ordinator at a non-profit, healing arts organization called; Creative Works Studio.
She lives and works in Toronto and is presently collaborating on a Graphic Novel with writer Stacey May Fowles. The working title of their book is “For Fear of Fighting”. It will be released in Fall 2008 and published by Invisible Publishing.
